Routine maintenance of medical syringes mainly includes cleaning, inspection, proper storage, and periodic functional testing to ensure their safety and accuracy.

Cleaning and Disinfection

Wipe the surface of the syringe with a damp, clean, soft cloth, avoiding liquid inflow. If contaminated with medication, wipe it clean immediately to prevent corrosion or performance degradation. For reusable syringes, sterilization treatment should be performed according to specifications, such as boiling at high temperature, wiping with alcohol, or soaking in a special disinfectant solution.

Storage Requirements

Syringes should be stored in a dry, cool, and well-ventilated place, avoiding direct sunlight, high temperatures, humidity, or severe vibration. Do not expose syringes to strong light for extended periods or place them in a refrigerator to prevent material aging or damage to internal components.

Functional Inspection and Maintenance:

Before each use, check that the syringe is intact, the piston moves smoothly, and the needle is sharp and not bent.

Regularly test its injection accuracy and rate, and calibrate if necessary.

For electric syringe pumps, regularly check the power supply, battery status, alarm system, and pressure sensor for proper functioning.

Handling Precautions

Strictly adhere to aseptic techniques. Use one set of equipment per person to avoid cross-infection.

Disposable syringes must not be reused to prevent needle blunting, residual medication crystallization causing blockage, or other infection risks.

Dispose of syringes according to medical waste disposal regulations after use.
