The replacement frequency of reusable syringes depends on the type and usage. It is generally recommended to replace them after a certain number of uses or when performance deteriorates to ensure safety and accuracy.
Glass or Metal Syringes (High-Temperature Resistant and Reusable)
These syringes can be used for a long time, but require strict cleaning and sterilization after each use.
Replacement Criteria: Replace immediately if the syringe markings become blurred, the piston seal deteriorates, the needle connection becomes loose, or the glass cracks.
It is recommended to assess the overall condition after every 50–100 uses and replace the entire set if necessary.
Infusion Pump Components (e.g., pump needle, pump tubing)
Infusion Pump Needle: If used continuously for extended periods, replace every 3 days; if used for short periods, replace after each use.
Infusion Pump Tubing: To prevent drug residue, tubing aging, or blockage, replace every 3 days. If used for infusing high-concentration or easily crystallizing drugs, replace more frequently.
Replacement Recommendations in Special Circumstances
If increased resistance is observed in the syringe, inaccurate dosage delivery, or liquid leakage, discontinue use immediately and replace the syringe.
If strong chemical reagents (such as glutaraldehyde) are used during sterilization, prolonged use may corrode metal parts. Regular inspection and replacement of consumable parts every 6 months are recommended.
